We like to say that our style is "Disco Death Funk". sort of like metal mixed with funk and then a humor and upbeatness to it. Here's a link to some rough live performances. The album once it's done will be much better, hehe. Pretty much we've gotten into a groove with each other and the vocals have improved greatly. I play bass and sing, and I've been playing bass for a long time but just barely singing now. And it's hard to do both at the same time. [link] if you browse around that link there's some video and some live tracks. And here's a link to the song that I had stuck in my head while I did this piece. It completely is the feeling of the painting. (and it's not even my band, hehe)[link]
I will definitely have to check that out, I love the sound of "disco death funk"....it just sounds epic. I'm sure playing any instrument and singing at the same time is difficult, it requires some major multitasking of both the brain and the extremities! Actually makes me think of "That 1 Guy", which for some reason I'm thinking you'd really like if you checked him out. He made his own instrument and it's this epic pipe thing that makes bass-like sounds and he sings, and does a bunch of other stuff all at the same time. He's a one man band pretty much and he's got this trippy, awesome personality that is a real blast when you're seeing him live. I actually heard him for the first time when I went to a Buckethead concert and he opened for him and I'd never even heard of him before. I fell in love instantly. He reminds me of like.... Tom Waits combined with Stomp combined with NIN or something along those lines. Maybe throw in a little dash of Modest Mouse. Anyways, check out the video "That 1 Guy-Mash" and then see if you can find another video after that where you can actually see him play his instrument, it's badass. Unfortunately nothing compares to hearing him live, because the sound that resonates from his instrument is incredibly awesome. He also sometimes plays a saw, which is so rare these days and he made an instrument out of a cowboy boot Anyhow, I just got this feeling that you might really enjoy him, that is, if you didn't already know about him, which I wouldn't be surprised about. (sorry for taking so damn long to respond to you, I have been putting off reading my replies and messages for 2 months now and I'm finally getting to them, I feel like such a jerk right now! lol, I just hope people didn't think I was ignoring them or something)
Yeah, I get better and better and singing and playing everyday but I got a long way to go me thinks. Here's a link to one of our 99% completed studio tracks ( [link] ) The more I think about it another genre you could call our stuff is Funkgrass Metal. But yeah Disco Death Funk isn't so bad either. hehe
As far as "That 1 guy" goes I think that it's really interesting, I enjoy it quite a bit. I love Buckethead, Stomp, Tom Waits and NIN so those are good to be compared to. I dig it though. I checked out Mash and "The Moon is Disgusting (live)". I'll have to check it out and keep my eyes peeled for a tour he's on.
For sure! I'm glad you liked it. Stomp is awesome, I wish I could see them live though, and I missed them when they played in San Jose, which is only like 30 minutes from here. I was so upset. The Moon is Disgusting is an awesome song. Check out "Butt Machine" too. I'm gonna go listen to your song now
